Friday 5 for December 27, 2019: Year End Awards

Hey it's Tuesday, December 31, the last day of the year 2019. This post will finish up my Friday 5 Answers Blog for 2019 as I answer these questions as published to Scrivener's Friday 5 blog.

Here's wishing anyone reading this, a Happy New Year in 2020. The Roaring 20's are back.

And now the questions with answers:

1. Who is your 2019 most valuable player?

In short order: MYSELF. If I don't value me, then what more is there to value?

2. Who is your 2019 newcomer of the year?

My new Grand Niece born April 11, 2019. She lives with her Mom and Dad in Texas.

3. Who is your 2019 most improved player?

My sister. She and my cousins took the lead with our family reunion this past May.

4. Who is your 2019 comeback player of the year?

My friend who lives in Waikiki for being resilient against the bad things put upon him by his family.

5. Who receives your 2019 team spirit award?

My friend Lisa for encouragement, optimism, talent, knowledge, perseverance and survival against tremendous odds. Despite the anguish and pain that she is in, I've found her to be very kind and helpful toward others and myself through the years and today.

Friday 5 for February 16: Dog

Dog

Kung Hee Fat Choy. Happy Chinese New Year. It's the Year of the Dog. That all said I am a Cat Person. Why is there no Year of the Cat? Except of course for that Al Stewart song.... I have never liked dogs very much.

Here are the answers to this week's Friday 5:

1. What doglike traits do you possess?

I tend to be loyal to people who are good to me. My friends and relatives. The ones that I feel the closest too.

2. What’s your favorite dog movie?

I can't think of too many dog movies that I like. Just off the top of my mind... The old Walt Disney black and white movie, The Shaggy Dog which starred Fred MacMurray and Jean Hagen. It's about a teenager who turns into a dog! Too goofy.

3. When did you last have a hot dog?

Probably a long time ago now, way before December 2015. Hot dogs and other "compressed meats" contain too much salt and fat. I have been told since I was diagnosed with hypertension to avoid salty, fatty foods. So hot dogs is one.

4. Who is (or was) a good celebrity dog?

From my childhood:

1. Lassie 2. Jed Clampett's dog on The Beverly Hillbillies show who pretty much just laid on the cement.

5. What are you doing for chow this weekend?

Eating the usual, bland unsalted foods.

I like cats better. Cats!

Hello Kitty

Are you a dog or cat person? (links to an online quiz)

As I said, I am a cat person: "You are a cat person! You are largely independent, you have strong opinions, and you are not afraid to share them. You know exactly what you like, and while your views may not always go with the grain, they are yours, darn it, and thats all that matters. Unlike your dog person counterpart, you are more than okay being by yourself. In fact, you quite enjoy it sometimes."

Friday 5 for December 30: Forward

From Scrivener's Friday 5 blog comes the last entry for 2016.

1. What are you looking forward to in your personal life in 2017?

Increasing my income, a new job, strengthening and maintaining my friendships, definitely maintaining my health and perhaps traveling.

2. What's something you're planning ahead for?

If I have enough money, travel to the mainland in August 2017 to view the total eclipse of the sun.

3. How intense is your to-do list for the last days of the year?

Not very. Do the laundry. Pay bills. Clean. Routine stuff.

4. What's something you'd like to jump past, between now and the end of the year?

Bills.

5. How will you ring in the new year?

Usually very quietly on New Year's Eve. I avoid any and all parties. I am not a wild celebratory type of person. I prefer to stay at home, observe the insane firecracker noise from the safety of my own place. I try not to drive on New Year's eve. Gotta avoid collisions with the drunk drivers.

Early the next morning as I have done for several years now, I go out and take a picture of the first sunrise of the new year.... rain or shine. If it is raining I take a picture of where the sun should come up and show the rain. I publish the photos to my Flickr photostream and other social media sites.

I will more than likely take my first walk of the new year by pushing it 3 miles that day.

After that I sometimes go to Don Quijote Store and watch them burst the fireworks and have the Chinese dragon people come over and make a lot of noise. Asians make a big deal of ringing in the New Year.

That's about it. Hope you all have a Happy New Year.
