1. Among people who are professionally funny, who most reliably makes you laugh?
For my entire life since I was a kid, The Three Stooges have provided me years of laughs with their slapstick comedy shorts. I still laugh at them today.
2. Which films have made you laugh most?
One of them is Splash with Tom Hanks, Darryl Hannah, John Candy and Eugene Levy. To me Levy stole the show with his Dr. Walter Kornbluth character... "Behold the Mermaid!"
I get more laughs out of funny TV shows, especially older ones.
Various episodes of the TV series Seinfeld. "The Parking Space" episode is one of my favorites of all time, followed by the one with The Soup Nazi.

The breakdown of electoral college votes for the recently completed presidential election the day after... 270+ votes ending up with 312 for Trump. MAGA!
It was funny to read about all the goofy crybaby reactions from the liberal left losers. The videos were even more funny.

1. What’s the most boring thing on TV?
Too much to mention. There are so many boring things on TV, but I would guess a test pattern, snow (on old analog TV sets) and the blue screen of death are probably the most boring things on TV. I mean a test pattern. How long can you stand watching this:
2. What’s the most enlightening thing on TV?
Nothing is really enlightening on TV. Perhaps if you are of faith there may be some types of religious programs that you might find enlightening.
3. What’s the most comforting thing on TV?
Free streaming from YouTube, Pluto TV, TUBI TV and other streamers... plus TV stations that you can catch for FREE using an antenna. It is comforting to know that despite annoying ads, a lot of content is available and you don't have to spend a single penny to get it...re: no subscription fees. All the free streams are good for background noise while you do something else. My favorites are music mixes and Airline Videos.
4. What’s the tawdriest thing on TV?
Currently any press conference coming out of The White House.
5. What’s the most thrilling thing on TV?
That changes a lot from time to time. Thrilling can be anything from rocket launches, Dragon spaceflight, Starship, Falcon 9, Falcon Super Heavy, etc. (think Space X) to science fiction TV shows and movies that I watch over and over again: Babylon 5, Star Trek (various), Star Wars, The Expanse, The X Files, The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits; anything in space and sci-fi oriented. I also like the Taylor Sheridan produced shows, many which I have yet to watch.... think Yellowstone and several spin-offs.
A lot of Space X content streams live on YouTube and NASA TV. All free of charge. Yay!
1. What has been a nice surprise in this first half of the year?
Nothing surprisingly nice has happened to me so far. Most of the time everything stays the same.

Rapper Tom MacDonald has held the #1 position on my Current Top 20 song longer than any other this year with his song "Ghost". It's an indie record (like all of his others) that most radio stations refused to play, even though this is just a simple love song to his significant other Nova Rockerfeller, who is the producer of most of his videos. MacDonald has amassed a large YouTube following and has sold many records / songs / digital downloads.

Friday 5 for September 2: All in the family
1. What efforts do you make in resisting Father Time?
I listen to a lot of old music from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. I have old records and CDs. Plus mixed tapes. Old movies are good too. I have a pared down collection on DVD... I used to have more. I kept the ones I consider classics. I watch old TV shows and movies on streaming video. TUBI TV has some good old movies... Amazon Prime too. In the last 10 to 15 years I have not seen many contemporary movies. Theaters are too expensive, many movies don't go to Amazon Prime, so I just watch the oldies. No biggie.
I've tried turning the clock back a few minutes every day. I don't have a DeLorean with a nuclear thingy that can go 88.5 mph to break the time barrier... oh well.. and H.G. Wells' time traveler took his machine back to the Eloi Earth and there is not chance of him coming back.
So basically all efforts to resist Father Time will prove to be hopeless as the oblong box or the crematorium will be our final destination.
2. In what manner do you try to be a good steward of Mother Earth?
Don't get me started with this because I hate the whole green Earth Biden and AOC agenda that has been pushed not only by the federal government since January 2020, but also by the asinine State Government of Hawaii. Outlaw coal electricity production thereby raising our electric rates higher in the long run! Yep, thatʻs Hawaii. Politics and environmentalism have made our lives less convenient and more expensive!
Look at California and Washington State. They want to ban sales on gasoline powered cars. Screw that horrible agenda. I hate forced recycling. I hate less convenience and increased costs for this agenda. Plastics bans... and all of that government induced crap pandering to the Environmental Extermists! Ugh!!! CO$TLY to our pocketbooks. I am angry!
Since I will be dead in a couple of decades, why should I care? I don't have kids, I don't have much of a legacy to leave behind. Plus in about 5 billion years the sun will become a red giant and long before that happens, it will scorch this world Earth, Venus, Mercury and Mars into cinders. There is not much to hope for us in the long run except for death. It is a given.
That all said, I do send our trash down the building's trash chute. I don't use that much water in my home. I don't have a yard. My home is small/tiny so not much electricity is used. So you got those short term things.
3. What has recently caused you to say Uncle?
With my advancing age, some young people call me "uncle". All of my real uncles from days gone by have passed away. So, I donʻt have any literal reason to say "uncle".
As a slang term for pain or stop or whatever, I have never used it.
4. Among actors in Ant-Man, who are you particularly fond of?
I have never seen Ant-Man or any new movie except for those that show up on Amazon Prime. I don't even know what Ant-Man is about. I guess that is either another Disney/Marvel franchise movie or one from Warner Brothers/DC Comics franchise... OK.. going to look that up... Thanks for the link.
OK... another Disney/Marvel franchise film... 2015... wow that was long ago already. See I donʻt go to the movies and I donʻt subscribe to Disney Plus. Also there are way too many Marvel movies out there. How can anyone keep up with this stuff? I think I only saw the original Thor and Captain America from the franchise movies.
Only two actors in that movie I know anything about. The first one is Michael Douglas who made a name of himself by being the son of legendary actor Kirk Douglas and getting his first big break in the TV series Streets of San Francisco. I know him best for the movies Romancing the Stone, The War of the Roses and Wall Street. I loved Kathleen Turner.
The only other member of that cast that I know of somewhat is Evangeline Lily, mainly because she was part of the cast of that doomed flight in LOST (2004 - 2010) TV series... ABC/Disney. What a coincidence!
Everyone else, I have never heard of.
5. Which notable brothers would you most like to hang out with? Which notable sisters?
First of all my brother and sister are the two most notable ones I know. While we are estranged from my brother, I like hanging with my sister when I can.
There are no other brothers and sisters of note that I would like to hang with.
Friday 5 for August 26: Four months
With this late posting probably less that that... Oh wait here is a link to the Christmas Countdown Clock. That will prevent you from resisting Father Time. Ever noticed when we were kids, it seemed like an eternity before Christmas would finally roll around. Now that I am much older, I go... "Oh no! Christmas is just around the corner??? This quickly! Yikes!!!"
Christmas is one of those turning points that mark our age, every year all the time. It is the signal that only seven days remain before another new year will arrive as we march another step closer to our graves.
1. How good are you at wrapping gifts?
With patience I am fairly good. For a short period of time I did work at the Waikiki Christmas Storewhere we did a lot of "gift wrapping".
2. When are you likely to begin your Christmas shopping this year?
December 21, 22 or 23....I know there is a gift card rack at Longs, Walmart and Target. Plus I can send out virtual gift cards from Amazon. Gift cards are great things for the last minute shopper.
3. How do you feel about candy canes?
Cheap sticky, sugary crap that is passed out for free at all kinds of places and functions. I do however like the song "Candy Cane Lane" by Sia.
4. Have you been naughty or nice this year?
Just hiding under the radar as I do most years. Naughty or nice is a subjective judgement.
5. In what way was today most December-like?
It was sunny and hot as I think it will be in December. Global warming is a good thing in December.... plus I live in Honolulu Hawaii close to Waikiki. Itʻs sunny and warm every Christmas which is what helps our economy as jet-loads of tourists come to visit Hawaii and flee the harsh cold for a few days or weeks.
So E Como Mai. Hawaii is open for most businesses. Come visit us. Spend your money. Add to our tax collections. Help pay for Hawaiiʻs wasteful government spending. Oh what fun it is to ride and sing in a slaying song tonight!
Moohahahahahaha! Merry Christmas and Have Fun. Donʻt forget about that Red Giant which will come in 4 billion years. Whoopee!

3. What’s your favorite movie released in 2010?
I hardly ever watch movies these days. It started from the 2000s as prices at theaters steadily went up. I kind of had to stop buying DVDs too as I had too much and pay cable was out of the question. In 2011 I cut my cable cord. I only watch streaming video and mostly only on the free channels.
That said the only two movies out of that list that I saw are the following:
- Shrek Forever After - Just saw this a few weeks ago on Tubi TV. Pretty good wrap for the franchise.
- Chronicles of Narnia - Voyage of the Dawn Trader - The only movie I actually paid money to go see at the theater that year. I had seen the previous 2 on the big screen in prior years. This was the 2nd best of the three movies, the original being the best one.
4. Which television programs* debuting in 2010 did you rather enjoy?
- Caprica - Sadly it was cancelled after 18 or so episodes. This was a good prequel to the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica series of 2004.
- Hawaii Five-0 - I watched it regularly for the first 2 or 3 years and then grew tired of it. For 2010 it was not bad + plus it kept Hawaii's TV industry alive after LOST wrapped up that year.
- Storage Wars - I never watched this when it first came out, but watch it and its location centric offshoots on TubiTV or Pluto TV when I just feel like vegging out on something stupid. I like free streaming.
5. Which events in 2010 bring back good memories?
The most memorable events that bring back good memories in my life that year was spending a week or so with my Mom and Dad. Dad was in his last months of life. On several days he wanted to see different places on the Big Island where he grew up and lived. I drove Mom and Dad up to Pauuilo Mauka, Kalopa, Ookala and Laupahoehoe all in one day. The plantation camp that he grew up in was torn down years before we revisited the place in 2010. He was kind of sad. I shot a lot of pictures.
I also made a 20 minute video of him talking about some of the memories he had while growing up in Ookala. Here is a one minute clip of that video.
Second most memorable event of 2010 was doing a press tour for HawaiiReporter and sailing out on the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier that July for the RIMPAC exercises.
1. With which Looney Tunes character do you have the most in common?
That is an intriguing question that I would have never applied to myself. While I watched Looney Tunes and its Warner Brothers Inc. related stablemate Merrie Melodies a lot when I was a kid, I never totally related to any of the characters in a personal way. After checking with Wikipedia, there are many, many Looney Tunes characters some of which I don't recall.
Any character that is frustrated with the outcome of whatever situation he or she is in. Often it is Daffy Duck, Wile E. Coyote, and Yosemite Sam.
2. Who or what are your metaphorical Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote?
Runaway government taxes and spending vs. citizens who just want to stop taxes from increasing and cutting government spending. It is so frustrating.
3. What’s up, doc?

Cartoon violence is funny. It is not harmful to your health. You just have to be able to separate the fiction (cartoons) from fact (your life). Looney Tunes is good entertainment. Th-th-that's all folks!

1. What was your favorite breakfast cereal when you were a kid?
Captain Crunch, though if you left it in the milk for too long, it would still get soggy.

If I think it is worth buying, then it probably is frosted Mini Spooners.

I'd rank it as "expensive".

More so TV serials, specifically "space opera".... Babylon 5 and the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica.These two TV series as well as several others unfold like chapters in a book as their stories progressed over the seasons (years). Other TV series in the "serial" genre have included SciFi yarns such as The X Files(with several continuing story arcs), LOST and to a degree Star Trek: Deep Space 9. Other serial series that I have enjoyed over the years include Michael Mann's Crime Story and the British serial Doc Martin.
5. What recently surreal experience have you gone through?
Let me premise this by saying that my TV broke a few months ago. I have decided not to buy one for the time being. I have also discontinued my cable TV service and don't intend to re-up once I get a new TV.
That said most of my "TV" viewing is now done online with my computer, and much of it is free except for my monthly internet access fee.
1. What are your thoughts on late-night television talk shows?
Never watched any of the late night talk shows with regularity. If I did it was boring old ABC News Nightline or something on Fox News Channel.
2. What television program is so bad you can’t believe anyone watches it?
The following are current TV shows that stink:
ABC TV - The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, True Beauty, Wife Swap, Wipeout
CBS - Big Brother, Amazing Race, Arranged Marriage
NBC - most of their shows stink lately except for most of the Law & Order franchise.
Fox - Glee, Family Guy, So You Think You Can Dance, American Idol
Cable - All of MTV and VH1 suck - they don't play music videos anymore.
Cable - Lifetime network, all shopping channels, many more.
One of the main reasons why I canceled my cable is because I hate paying for junk I never watch. Why subsidize this crap when I only want to watch a few shows on some channels? I can find several good shows for free online via some of the networks and places like Hulu.com and YouTube. Besides standard TV shows, there are many types of unique videos hosted on YouTube and other services such as Vimeo and UStream.
3. In what way have your television-viewing habits changed over the years?
Since I stopped subscribing to cable I watch way less TV and get most of my content from the internet. Plus I have more time to watch my DVD collection.
As a general thought over the years I have tended to watch more Fox News, C-SPAN, some Discovery and History Channel and occasionally Animal Planet.
I used to subscribe to HBO a long time ago, but after my Betamax died, I discontinued. Back in the 1980s the VCR and HBO (as well as other pay movie services) were a great way to record movies to build a relatively cheap collection.
DVD and DRM changed all of that. I like DVD and maybe will like Blue Ray too. But I absolutely hate DRM. Don’t know what DRM is? Look it up! I'm not a fan of DRM.
When I do get a set again, the computer will be hooked up to it , as well as the DVD player. I have decent over the air digital TV reception, so definitely an antenna set up will also do. Plus I may get either a Roku Box or Apple TV… anything that doesn’t require me to pay additional monthly fees is game for me.
4. If you were in charge of the universe, what changes might you make to television?
Too many that I could think of, but a few that I would implement include:
Allowing viewers to have ala-carte cable. Offer that as an option instead of bundling everything as a package. Let the buyer pick and choose what they want. If no one actively subscribes to a network, then let that network go out of business. TV networks that don’t get viewers should not be allowed to stay in business.
I think they future of TV lies mostly with the internet. We will get ala carte TV as more and more people slowly drift away from the current cable TV and satellite offerings. Hulu, YouTube, NetFlix, and other services are in the wings ready to eventually become mainstream.
5. What is most likely the very next thing you will be watching on television?
Nothing! My TV is broken. I’ll be watching something on my computer -- more than likely a music video on YouTube, a local newscast snippet or a clip from Fox News TV.

1. What Rolling Stones song best summarizes the week you just had?
"Time Waits For No One", and it won't wait for me..... yes, I got sick this past week and missed a lot of things and had to catch up for a while on stuff. Actually a better song for me this past week would have been Aerosmith's "Sick as a Dog".
2. What movie reminds you most of your childhood?
Too many to mention... but probably the original "Planet of the Apes" with Charlton Hestion is my late childhood favorite since I saw that several times in the theater between 1968 to 1970, when it was double billed with “Beneath the Planet of the Apes”... The movie often brings back childhood memories for me when I think about the childhood friends that I went to the theater with to see this movie.
3. What part of the newspaper do you never (or almost never) read?
The classifieds, most of the sports section, some of the world news section, it depends on the paper. Classifieds are really a waste of time since there are hardly any ads other than those put up by car dealerships and real estate firms. We can all thank Craigslist for this since most of the real world classified ads now appear online at this free service.
I also never read horoscopes (waste of time and I don't believe in that crap), bridge column, Dear Abby, crossword puzzle, most of the liberal left opinion writers.
4. What television show is a lot better than you thought it would be?
The most recent one would have to be the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica which aired on the SciFi channel for the past 4 years between 2005 – 2009. It was based on the original series of the same name which aired in the late 1970s.
The new version blew that old one out of the water with a better, darker storyline that unraveled like a serial over its 4 year run. It had better character development , some twisted storyline sub-plots, a mythical ethos, death, destruction and better special effects.
The new version of V is also better than its 1980s original, though the original mini-series from 1983 that started it all still holds strong today IMO.
5. What station is the radio nearest you set on at this moment?
KHVH 830 AMNews and Talk. I have several radios and most of the time when I listen to radio today, I am on KHVH. They air my most of my favorite conservative talk radio shows including the locally hosted Rick Hamada Show, and the nationally syndicated Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Coast to Coast AM shows. Yes, I am a Tea Party conservative and in this day and age when Obummer and his ilk are driving our great country further and further to the left in their unlentless march to socialism, it is conservative talk radio and Fox NewsChannel that we need the most in today’s twisted world.

1. What film have you seen in the past year that’s completely average?
The only movie I paid to see at the theater this year was way above average. That leaves me with DVD movies that I have. The most mediocre that I saw this year is one called The Virgin Chronicles which I bought for $5 as part of a double DVD in WalMart coupled with American Beauty. Not a bad movie, but not very good either. Mediocre at best.
2. Who’s the most average-looking person you know?
There are plenty, too numerous to pick only one.
3. In what area of your life are you performing just well enough?
My whole life is mostly average.
4. A new radio station features music you neither like nor dislike! What are three songs you’re likely to hear on it?
I don't know about "new" radio stations. Mostly our old ones get an occasionally makeover (format change). That said the current makeover of KPOI 105.9 FM (The Ride) has sunken to further mediocrity by playing predictable but average hits such as REO Speedwagon's "Time for Me to Fly", John Cougar Mellencamp's "Pink Houses" and "Roseanna" by Toto. They were good songs in the day, but today they are just part of a bigger, bland mix typical of most classic rock, oldies, 80s and AC formatted stations.
Most music radio stations are pretty bland overall because a lot of them opt to run computerized, voice tracked programming or syndicated content that sounds the same everywhere else in the U.S. Hardly any real time local DJs in many timeslots except for morning drive... usually.
Another bunch of bland radio stations in our market include KSSK AM & FM, KRTR 96.3 FM and KUMU 94.7 FM. They all feature an adult contemporary format and play mediocre tracks by artists such as Michael Buble, Celine Dion, Barry Manilow, Mariah Carey, Billy Joel, Michael Bolton, Kenny G, Leona Lewis, Alicia Keys, Whitney Houston, and Kelly Clarkson to name a few. A mix of the average to mediocre old stuff and new hits. Yawn.
KSSK is also very difficult to listen to during the holidays as they only play Christmas music for the entire season up to December 25. While I like Christmas music, I can't stand hearing it around the clock 24-7.
5. What game or sport are you just okay in?
I am a mediocre to terrible chess player. I like Stratego and Checkers but am rusty in both today. I don't do very well with some of the games I have on my Nintendo DSi or the various Macintosh computers I own.
I totally suck at all sports, which means I don't play any.
The shrinking size of local newspapers are a signal that their days as a news and advertising medium are numbered. I think we'll be getting most of our news in the future from the internet, if not already. Surely many internet resources are dubious, but we want it for free and if a Tweet passes for news, then so be it.
2. Where do you get most of your information about current national and international events?
Other type of news- (no URLs sorry) Politics, Conservatism, Fox News Online, Drudge Report, Palm OS News, blogs, Tech, Photography, Cameras, Radio & Records website (up to early June), Billboard.com, music news, Wikipedia, Google, Yahoo, Yahoo Groups, Google groups, science fiction, Star Wars, Star Trek, LOST, TV, radio, movies, IMDB, etc., etc. Who has time to keep up with everything?
